I Think I Know Why You’re Not Doing Video Marketing

Why Haven’t You Done Videos Yet? (I Think I Know Why)

At the beginning of 2019, I said that I was going to record a video every workday for the entire year. I think that’s 261 videos or something. My primary goal was to treat video the way I treated blogging when I started back in 2011. I just wrote and wrote my heart out without any real rhyme or reason and without creating anything of exceptional quality.

I just thought I could figure it out as I went along. In early 2019, I’d created about 12 videos and then I had a baby. Afterward, I felt like I didn’t have the energy or time. I didn’t have the body confidence in my postpartum face and all of these doubts and excuses completely turned me away from wanting to do video. Plus, I hadn’t seen any return on the 12 videos I’d done.

To top it off I made every mistake I possibly could from registering my YouTube URL in Azerbaijan or something like that to not narrowing down topics or repurposing video content. I just didn’t know what I was doing. And that was fine in 2011, but it’s sort of inexcusable in 2019.

Video Content Marketing is Strategic and Intentional

It’s not the kind of thing you can figure out as you go. Now, that’s not true for the videos themselves (like learning about your talking points and learning how to talk through a video without getting overwhelmed). That is something you’ll learn just by the sheer volume of recording videos. But the technical stuff I should have looked it up – I obviously should have.

I also should have had a strategy behind it. Not “I’m just gonna go live and talk about whatever comes to mind at the moment.” That did not make me look very professional. Even now, just a little bit more than a year later, I’ve already deleted those videos that don’t serve my purpose or my business now, which makes sense, right?

You don’t need to keep things that are embarrassing. In fact, you probably shouldn’t. The bottom line is you can have a strategy that says videos are going to become all of the content I create. Then, simply having done them is your ROI. Video is like a lot of things with marketing and the ROI isn’t immediately apparent.

If you carve out 60 to 90 minutes of your time to talk about as many topics as you can in that short timeframe, then you don’t have to do anything else beyond that. We can take it from there. From there, our team will communicate with you throughout the process to let you know when your video is published to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
