I always get good questions from clients and people I talk to during the week. Recently someone asked me how many pieces of content they should be putting out there. The answer is that there’s no upward limit to how much content you could create, especially at first. This is because what you’re trying to do when you’re first starting out is really get your footing and establish a solid content marketing plan.
Building a Content Marketing Plan From the Ground Up
When you’re just getting started, you’re building content from the ground up. There’s no backlinks and no profile on Google so you’ll likely be focused on cranking out a lot of content. Having just started AmplifiedNOW a few months ago, I’m in the same boat and have challenged myself to record 100 videos in quarter 4 of this year. Yes, 100.
It’s so many videos and it is so much more than I would tell anybody in their right mind to try to do. But for me, it accomplishes a couple of things. One, it gets me super comfortable in front of the camera. Since I am trying to teach other people how to be comfortable in front of the camera, I need to be as comfortable as humanly possible.
Two, it’s a very fast way to get a bunch of content onto our blog and our social channels. And because we have a system, it’s the mindless way to do it. With video, we don’t have to think too hard about what we’re going to put each week on social media, because it’s already been pre-determined.
We’re going to have a ton of content every single day for a while. Part of that is to get the attention of the robots (the search engines). We’re trying to establish our YouTube channel, along with our Instagram and Twitter profiles. It’s a lot.
Focus on Producing a Steady Flow of Core Content (That Can Be Repurposed)
I’m also just challenging myself and my content creation muscle. So back to what you need for a robust content marketing plan? How many pieces of content do you need to crank out? The answer is to put out new and quality core content once a week.
If you can create a new blog post or a new video once a week, then take that content and repurpose it as many ways as you can think of. This will create more content for your social channels so you can start getting traction. If you want more traction, just publish more often.
For me, once this challenge is done, I will not be posting every day, there’s no need to continue cranking out content in such high volumes after I’ve done 100 videos. What we’re going to do in 2021 is space it out more. We are going to have one blog post per week like I’m recommending you do. This is simply because once we have this base of content and once that content starts working for us months down the line, we’re going to get better at it every single week.
Every single time you create a new video, you are going to get better at video creation. You are going to stammer less, edit less, and you’ll just figure it out. I promise.
The Benefits of Creating a Robust Content Marketing Plan
The only reason to do as much content as I’m putting out right now is if you’re looking to have an intense content marketing plan.
It’s flexing my muscles and it’s flexing the muscles of my team so that when we have 10, 20, or 30 clients, we’re not overwhelmed because we know exactly what to do and we’ve worked out the bugs in the process. By my 99th video, I can assure you of that. This is nowhere near that and we’ve already ironed out all of the bugs that we need to iron out.
So thinking about the content machine, it’s the beast that never is satisfied. However, thinking about it in terms of coming up with 50 titles is not hard. This represents 50 things that you believe, 50 points of your expertise, and 50 problems that you solve. Coming up with that is actually not that hard.
Book Your Strategy Call
Once you do this and have a plan in place, you want to focus on the what and the why and not necessarily the how. This is especially true if your product or service goes deep into the how. It’s setting yourself up to have a blog post go out every single week.
We’ll create enough content for you to let you do what you do best and let your content amplify your message, your platform, and your voice while you’re not having to actively manage absolutely any of it. Click here to book a call and let’s get started.
