Let’s talk about social media. I know everyone is constantly talking about social media but I want to take a different approach. Instead of explaining which social media platform is best for what, I want to talk about the reason why social media exists in the first place.

Social media can be an excellent way to amplify your message. However, it can be really challenging to start it all up especially if you haven’t been posting consistently. Best practices state that your social media should involve posting on LinkedIn once a day and Twitter 5 times a day and Instagram once a day.

At this rate, when are you supposed to find time to do your actual work if you’re supposed to be posting original content to these different platforms every single day? Not to mention, what do you say in all these posts? And why should what you say be different than what you say on Facebook?

Yes, so many questions but luckily, there’s an easier way to come up with your social media strategy.

Realize What You’re Starting With

If you’ve already done all the legwork and have any amount of content on your public side (or even internal documents) you have everything you need to map out and schedule all of your social media content for 2021.

Start Scheduling Stuff Out

Do yourself a favor and schedule out your content. It’s a game-changer and it doesn’t make you feel as skeezy self-promotional as you would if you were to set a calendar reminder for whatever multiple times a day to post in real-time. (We love MissingLettr!)

Focus on pulling out the gems and structuring it in a way that when you set it up in December you won’t have to think about it at all. Everything will be perfectly planned and curated so you won’t ever worry about whether you are being too promotional.

So if your Instagram is mostly you posting pictures of your dog, that’s okay because you’ve got all this other stuff that’s business-related, that is just happening behind the scenes. As you create more content, your social media strategy will become easier to map out on all your platforms.

Developing and enforcing your social media strategy doesn’t have to be that difficult. In fact, my clients love the fact that they don’t ever have to think about social media. We talk about which platforms we’re going to focus on during our strategy kickoff call. Then, we do a lot of research and work on how to make social media work for them rather than them feeling like they are working for LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.

It’s such a weight off their shoulders because when our clients create a 5 to 10-minute video, there are so many ways we repurpose it to create an entire content strategy that includes social media.

It’s about using the content as fodder for written content which is such a game-changer. Our clients then get notifications from LinkedIn from people who watched their video and were inspired by it or learned something new.
